Hair straightening has been used long enough for the procedure itself to have fans. But like any popular treatment, there are those who accidentally or intentionally spread all sorts of myths that have nothing to do with straightening.

Theorists and conspiracy theorists spread unsubstantiated information. They believe in the conspiracy of cosmetic companies. They say that keratin does not work, which is harmful and scary. Experts Brasil-Prof collected for you the top 11 myths about keratin straightening. Let's sort out where the truth and what is really fiction!

1. Myth one - hair fall out after the procedure.

Of course, a properly performed hair straightening treatment can be very damaging. But directly straightening itself can not cause their loss. But there are those who spread myths. According to them, everything goes in stages:

  • The hair absorbs the protein, after which it becomes heavier;
  • The hair follicle struggles to hold on to the too heavy hair and then lets it out.

Ridiculous? This scheme confirms the imagination of people. But let's take a substantive look at what people have noted in the Guinness World Records.

A 39-year-old woman from Yakutia pulled a small plane on her own hair over a distance of more than 10 meters. The strands didn't fall out, she just didn't have the strength to drag it further.

another example:

A resident from Dagestan lifted 81.5 kg with his hair set a new world record for lifting weights this way. And this is a recorded fact, you can read it if you are interested. After three years he managed to beat his own record and to lift a weight already 104 kg.
There are several others that are similar. And nothing, his hair did not fall off. Therefore, we can safely dismiss the myth that keratin is the cause of hair loss from weighting.

In fact, keratin strengthens the hair itself. And this is laboratory confirmed. In addition, it is impossible to weigh hair down with a cosmetic product so much that it will fall out on its own. By the way, wet hair is three times heavier than dry hair, and how many times do you wash your hair in a week?

Keratin straightening also has no effect on hair follicles. After all, the composition itself is applied to the hair, not on the skin. The hair may fall out due to a change of climate, a recent serious illness, a nutritional disorder or even the strongest stress that happened three months ago.

Have you noticed such a problem? You need not blame the cosmetic procedure, but to run to the therapist and conduct a comprehensive examination of the body. And also begin to actively take vitamins and mineral complexes - you have a lack of iron in the cells. By the way, straightening is a cure, but it will not help get rid of hair loss or split ends - remember. Because keratin does not work with the bulbs but with the web and the inner structure. The following myth is just about it.

2. The hair structure changes forever if you straighten it several times

Another "fairy tale. It won't happen, even if you badly want your excessively curly hair to be straight forever. Keratin treatment is not able to cut into the human genome and change it. The product only works on the visible part of the hair. The newly regrown roots will have your natural, natural origin. If you were born with hair, the ingrown part will curl. This is normal. The way keratin works with the structure is that it fills, nourishes and restores curls from the inside out, nothing more.

3. Total Hair Damage.

This is no longer just a myth, but a horror story in the style of children's horror stories. All hair can't get damaged, even if the procedure wasn't done correctly on all counts. Yes, self-tanners can damage your hair, but they won't make you bald. If you want to calm your own nerves, just turn to real professionals with years of experience and who use professional equipment and cosmetics.

But you should also keep in mind that the hair is exposed to high temperatures during the procedure. If you make a mistake, they can be burned and it will be ruined. But from the place where it was affected by the iron, not completely from the bulb. This is why the work of a master is important - a specialist will be able to determine how many passes on your hair, how much composition you need to apply, how long it can withstand.

Keratin is necessary for hair to be healthy. But you can really ruin them during straightening if you make one of the following mistakes:

  • Applying too much product to over-protect (it will be too greasy);
  • Use cosmetics of dubious origin (cat in the bag);
  • Exceeding the allowable temperature of the plates when pulling (thermal damage);
  • Too long an exposure if you are doing nanoplasty (this will dry out the curls due to overexposure).

If you do not make these mistakes, the procedure will not only straighten, but regenerate and restore the hair.

4. Keratin as a drug for hair

It's like saying that toothpaste is a drug for teeth. The only reason for the myth is that properly performed straightening has a positive effect on the hair. And people quickly get used to the good stuff and after a couple of months do not remember how they looked before the procedure, unless of course you have photos left. Naturally, we don't think that the hair returns to its original state and we blame it on the "addiction" to the product.

In fact, after a few treatments you can give up further use of keratin. After two or three uses, your curls will be completely healthy. However, if it is the straightening effect that is important for you, then it is necessary to repeat the procedure every 4-5 months.

5. If you have straightened your hair, use only branded and expensive shampoos.

In general it is true, because if you use a low-quality shampoo, then the effect of keratin will disappear faster. But the manufacturers forget to make one important clarification - you need to use a shampoo with low sulfate. And you can find such a shampoo even among the budget options. If the price is not critical, then do not save money on yourself.

6. Will last only a couple of months.

And this is a fact with a caveat. After the first procedure, you can observe the effect from 2 to 4 months, depending on the type of curls, your own health and the surrounding weather, bathing in the sea and other negative influences. But with regular treatment, it can last up to 5 months, or even longer. On average, up to six months.

7. I had keratin, then I stopped, and the roots began to grow back.

Keratin is not chemo, not miling, not some other similar procedure. It tends to wash out, doesn't change the structure of the hair or the color and goes away gradually. Only a real specialist will be able to distinguish in your hair, when you have stopped doing keratin hair straightening, and only if he or she "buries" in your hair.

8. It is harmful!

Yes, temperature treatment by composition leads to unwanted fumes in the room. Well, do it in a ventilated or hooded room, and no toxins will not get into your body. Plus, use the services of trusted craftsmen. They know a thing or two about quality cosmetics. Formaldehyde or its derivatives, by the way, is present in many keratin products. It is released in a chemical reaction as a result of evaporation. Another thing is that it may be less or more. The problem of formaldehyde in cosmetics disappeared after 2010. Now all products are laboratory-tested, monitored and tested with quality certificates. And harmful substances are contained in negligible amounts. They are admitted to the markets of developed countries: the U.S., Singapore, Japan and European markets. If they were dangerous, we would not see them on store shelves of the variety of keratin preparations.

9. Cosmetics are the same

No, this is another myth. Cosmetic products differ in a number of ways. Manufacturers experiment and improve formulas, add fragrances, oils and vitamins. Cosmetics differ not only internally, but also externally. Some manufacturers don't bother with the packaging, while others use a premium design, tamper evident control and dispensers. The cheaper the product, the less "plush" in its composition. And premium keratin is packed with goodies. It is wrong to assume that cosmetic formulations are the same.

10. You should not wash your hair for 72 hours after hair straightening.

Myth! Gone are the days when it was forbidden to wash your hair for 3 days after keratin. This was done in order to guarantee the effect of the treatment. The formulations of popular brands have been improved. Today, the vast majority of straightening cosmetics are devoid of this drawback. The curls are washed and dried on the same day, immediately after the procedure. In our virtual showcase there are exactly such products for hair straightening, which do not require a long exposure

11. need to drink keratin capsules to maintain results

Drinking keratin is indeed useful in certain cases. But it won't have any effect on the already grown-out part that the salon service was performed on. Yes, new, regrown roots will look better, but it's better to use direct rather than inward exposure to maintain the result. Quality home care after keratin straightening will help better maintain smoothing and shine than pills or supplements.
